PAST RESEARCH PROJECT

The potential of silvopastoralism in New Zealand

This project was led by Raphael Spiekermann while at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research

It presented the results of an Our Land and Water Think Piece exploring the potential of silvopastoralism in New Zealand.

Results of this project include:

  • Livestock interactions are fundamental to consider in process studies.

  • Silvopastoralism is already widely used in hill country, but issues remain in terms of pests, cost of establishment, and Emissions Trading Scheme rules.
