PAST RESEARCH PROJECT
Quantifying the effectiveness of trees in reducing erosion and sediment delivery
This project was led by Raphael Spiekermann while at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research
It explored the findings of Raphael Spiekermann's PhD research that quantified the effects of different tree species on slope stability using geospatial models.
Results of this project include:
High disconnection between where landslides occur and where poplar and willows are growing in the study site.
Targeted planting dramatically increases the cost-effectiveness of space-planting.
